Taiji is the path to balance and well-being.
Laozi
Why Taiji?
Taiji is Tai Ji is Tai Chi. Or Taijiquan? There are various different spellings transcribing the Chinese characters into English and we like to go with the modern Pinyin one. All refer to the same soft martial art – the highest ultimate hand – Taijiquan or Taiji for short. My Taiji journey began when I was at art school looking for structural relaxation and balance in my life. I only had a vague idea about Taiji and was intrigued by the old term Shadow Boxing, literally thinking “that would be nice!”
Taiji is a very, very special martial art. It is one of the few internal martial arts that offer a system to develop inner strength and harmony through movement generated with concentration, co-ordination and relaxation of mind, energy and body. It embodies the great holistic principle of yielding, neutralising and issuing, which can be applied to any sphere of daily life ultimately.
Infinite Taiji stands in the tradition of Yang style Taijiquan, following my teacher Patrick Kelly, and his renowned teachers Master Huang Xingxian, Abdullah Dougan and Mouniji Maharaj. At the centre of our practise is the Taiji form, a nice flowing set of soft, slow movements that we co-ordinate with mind, energy and body. Note: we use the body to train the mind!
Our training system consists of four parts. We begin with the Loosening Exercises developed by Huang Xingxian that help loosen up the body and prepare for the Taiji form. Next, we learn the movements of the 37 move Taiji Short Form by Zheng Manqing in a step by step process. Later we may add the 108 move Long Form as passed down from Yang Chengfu. We continue with Pushing Hands practice, a set of fixed pattern partner exercises that focus on balance and sensitivity. Each session will finally conclude with a guided meditation.
Daoist principles were formulated 2500 years ago in the Daodejing by Laozi, a philosopher of ancient China. It's modern development began about 700 years ago with the Daoist sage, Zhang Sanfeng, who refined its structure into a practical method for attaining immortality through the cultivation of Qi or “internal energy.” Traditional Taiji training helps to relax, pacify the emotions and calm the mind. We achieve this by going deeper, focussing our awareness on sensing and relaxing the moving body. During practise the internal pathways of the body are freed up and the gentle movements stimulate the internal organs. Blood, tendons and bones are strengthened – Taiji benefits your physical health.
Finding a good teacher and sincere training twice weekly are the recipe for good progress and refined movement. At Infinite Taiji, we pride ourselves on providing a professional and welcoming environment for all students. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced learner, our goal is to guide you on your journey towards success in Taiji and achieving the highest ultimate hand.
Inner Strength plus Inner Peace equals Well-being – that's Taiji Arithmetic.

Movement
Each class we begin by quitening down. We close down the 'chattering' mind and awaken the deeper mind by listening into the deep body sensations using the 5 inner senses.
In the beginner course you will learn the 5 Loosening Exercises of Huang Xingxian, the 37-move Short Form of Cheng Manqing and Push Hand partner exercises.
Meditation
We finish each class with a meditation. You will learn a short guided meditation as taught by Patrick Kelly.
The great purpose of Taiji is the great purpose of life itself – spiritual evolution. We all are born to this purpose but most quickly forget why we are here.

In Patrick's school 3 streams of esoteric traditions – Daoism, Sufism and Yoga – flow together to form a teaching designed for internal development and evolution. He was an "inner circle" student of Master Huang who was one of Zheng Manqing's top students in Taiwan. Abdullah Dougan and Mouniji Maharaj complete the essence of Patrick's teaching. Testimonials
Hear from our happy Taiji people
I have trained Taiji with Anna-Maria for 20+ years and find her as a Taiji teacher to be positive and humble. She is very genuine in her passion to pass on the wisdom and teachings of our lineage. I recommend her as a teacher who follows Patrick Kelly’s system accurately. Anna-Maria has a great deal of Taiji knowledge and understanding to pass on, and she does so in a relaxed and friendly way.
